Holistic Green Living is a research and analysis site. We do not sell anything, we do not run user accounts, and we do not have a newsletter. This policy describes exactly what happens when you read a page here.
Who we are
This site is published by John Morales, 8374 NW 64th St, Miami, FL 33195, United States. For any privacy question, write to [PLACEHOLDER: privacy email address].
The short version
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read.
- We use affiliate links. Following one lets the merchant know you came from here.
- We do not sell or share your personal information, and we run no advertising network on this site.
- We do not ask you to register, we have no comments, and we collect no email addresses unless you write to us first.
What is collected, and by whom
Server logs
Our host, Hostinger International Ltd, records standard web server logs: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through the Google Site Kit plugin. It tells us how many people read a page, which links they follow, roughly what part of the world they are in, and whether they arrived from a search engine. It sets the cookies listed below.
Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Your IP address is used momentarily to derive an approximate location and is then discarded by Google. We have enabled no advertising or remarketing feature, and this site carries no ad network.
Google acts as our data processor for analytics. Google’s own handling of the data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and in Google’s business data notice.
Search performance
We use Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights. Both report on the site as a whole, in aggregate. Neither tells us anything about an individual reader.
If you email us
We keep your message and your address for as long as it takes to deal with the matter, and afterwards only where a record of a correction is useful. We do not add you to any list.
Cookies
- _ga and _ga_MNK7BR96KP — set by Google Analytics to tell repeat visits apart. They expire after two years and hold a randomly generated identifier, not your name.
- Caching cookies — our page cache may set a short-lived cookie so the correct version of a page is served. It holds no personal information.
- Merchant cookies — set by the merchant, on the merchant’s own site, after you follow an affiliate link. See the next section.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the analytics cookies changes nothing about what you can read here. You can also install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.
Affiliate links
Some links to products are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, we may be paid a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects a score or a position in a ranking; our affiliate disclosure explains how that separation is kept.
We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you follow one of our Amazon links, Amazon sets its own cookies on amazon.com to attribute the visit to us, and Amazon’s handling of that data is governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
No merchant tells us who you are. We see the number of clicks and any resulting orders, never your name, your address or your payment details.
Your rights
California
Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and not be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Because we run no advertising network and no remarketing, there is no such opt-out for us to offer; if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, nothing we do conflicts with it. United Kingdom and European Economic Area
This site is written for readers in the United States, but if you are covered by the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our processing, and to complain to your supervisory authority. Our lawful basis for analytics is a legitimate interest in understanding which articles are useful; for replying to your email it is the steps taken at your own request.
How long things are kept
Analytics data is retained by Google for the period configured on our property and is then deleted automatically. Server logs are rotated by our host. Email correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful for the matter it concerns.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
This policy describes our actual practices and is written to be accurate rather than defensive. It is not legal advice. If your readership in California or the EEA becomes significant, have a lawyer review it.
